IPRO 326 - Designs for School Building in Pignon, Haiti
Goals and Objectives: To design a school for the remote town of Pignon, Haiti, to enable an additional 400 children to access affordable education. -

The team assisted their partner, Haiti Outreach, in realizing this goal by providing them with technical assistance, project management and costing tools, as well as advice and guidelines that will help improve their construction techniques. -

IPRO 321 - Enhancing Reliability and Performance of a Paper Shredder
Summary: This project’s sponsor, The Manhattan Group, distributes products designed and manufactured in Asia throughout the United States. Begun in the Spring 2007, IPRO 321 addresses performance issues of various grades of paper shredders already found in the US consumer market. -

Specifically, the students have been involved in: (1) working with management to assess and improve the design of selected products; (2) conducting engineering studies to determine current level of performance; (3) researching competitive products and (4) developing alternatives within cost/performance parameters. The team spent several hours at a time at the company, funded by IIT. -

IPRO 310 - Designing & Building Prototypes for Assisting Blind Swimmers
Problem: Blind/visually impaired swimmers have difficulty with spatial orientation and edge detection while swimming. -

The team is in the process of designing and testing a sonar device that actively aids visually impaired swimmers. -
